David Wrightson, born in 1940, is still active in photography. He photographed Malta in October 1964 using a Mamiyaflex (and a Wide Rolleiflex subsequently after the theft of the Mamiyaflex in Malta) for the late Prof Quentin Hughes’ book, Fortress Malta. His work showcases Malta in beautiful, luscious black-and-white tones and belies Wrightson’s strengths as an exceptional architectural photographer with an innate understanding of light and shadow. The fact that this whole portfolio was produced in less than two weeks in Malta is a testament to the greatness of David Wrightson. His collection has been donated to MIPA for digitization and preservation and is still under copyright, and is the subject of the first publication in the Through the Lens series, published by MIPA in collaboration with Midsea Books.
